Squffy embroiders names on collars and leashes in its studio in Veghel, the Netherlands. Each name uses satin-stitch embroidery on nylon webbing: ten characters maximum, in the font and thread color you pick.

What "embroidered" actually means on a dog collar

The name is in the webbing, not on it

Most personalized collars print the name on top of the webbing with heat-transfer or screen printing. That surface layer fades on nylon within six to twelve months of daily walks. Squffy's embroidery is stitched directly into the webbing with dense satin stitching, integrating the lettering rather than layering it.

Ten characters, your font, your thread color

Embroidery requires space. Each letter needs a fixed area of webbing to stay legible; if letters get too small, the stitches blur together. We cap names at ten characters so every letter remains sharp and readable from a distance. Our fonts (Everest, Havenlock, Brimlow, Rumley, Solmere) include clean-geometric, flowing-script, classic-serif, bold-display, and warm-rounded styles, paired with curated thread colors designed to complement each collar colorway.

The trade-offs we make on purpose

Diacritics are removed (ë becomes e) and photos or logos cannot be embroidered. Long names are shortened before stitching. We only stitch plain text in our available fonts, in one or several thread colors. These constraints keep the embroidery neat, durable, and readable.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the character limit only ten?
Ten characters ensure letters stay sharp and proportional on every webbing width: 15 mm on the Puppy, 20 mm and 25 mm on the Classic, and 25 mm and 38 mm on the Tactical. Beyond ten, stitches crowd together and become hard to read. On Classic collars ordered with pins, the limit is eight characters (or six on size Small) to leave room for the eyelets.
Can I add a phone number to the embroidery?
Not on the collar. The ten-character limit accommodates one name. For a phone number, address, or medical note, we recommend an engraved dog tag: the name goes on the front, with optional details on the back.
Why no logo or photo embroidery?
Satin-stitch embroidery is suited to text. Logos require digitization, multi-thread sequencing, and a larger area than collar webbing provides. They are rarely legible on a curved surface such as a dog's neck.
What does the thread look like after three years?
Because the lettering is machine-stitched directly into the webbing rather than printed on top, it does not peel like a surface print. Sunlight and weather gradually soften the colors; the webbing may lose color before the thread does. We cannot promise a fixed lifespan in years.
Is embroidered always better than engraved?
No. They serve different purposes. Embroidery integrates a name in multiple colors into the collar for quick visual identification. Engraving works well for a waterproof ID tag with room for more characters and full contact details. An embroidered collar can be paired with an engraved tag.
